Craft beer is more popular than ever before. With more and more individuals turning away from the mass produced beer for something that offers more flavor and variety, the craft been industry is booming, which is great for local craft beer fans. Of course, for anyone who is looking to enjoy a craft beer, it is important to keep in mind a few different elements. This way, the person can enjoy these different beers throughout the right time of year. Spring Beers Spring is a time where most craft beers come out with their spring beers. The winter months offer heavier, darker beers, yet as the warmer months approach, these breweries also look for beer that is going to offer a crisper, cleaner taste to it. Many of these beers utilize a floral or citrus taste to it, which is what makes it more desirable this time of year. For craft breweries that only make seasonal beers, the launch of spring beer is one of the most desirable times for any craft beer lover. Often times, the release of the spring beer correlates to the first day of spring, but it also might come out a few weeks later, simply depending on the breweries schedule. Either way, it is best to enjoy the beer on tap than out of the bottle or can. The tap allows the beer to properly breathe and, depending on the beer, adds carbonation or nitrous oxide to it. Beer Festivals With the warming weather, it also brings out the desire for beer festivals as well. Beer festivals are a great way to test out different beers for cheap. Instead of buying a full beer in order to determine if you like it or not, the beer festivals allow you to first taste it, which can expose your pallet to all sorts of new beers that you might not have ever tried before hand. This way, you can enjoy the beer and you will be good to go from there. You might discover that you have a new favorite beer that simply is far better than anything else you have ever tried before. No matter what your favorite style is or what you are looking for, you are going to find it in these local beer festivals, which are usually run by local breweries and events groups, so you receive more local beer than anything...

Refreshing Cocktails to Make this Spring

on Apr 1, 2014 in Drink

When spring is in the air, I know that I want to be able to drink it all in. Enjoying a refreshing cocktail once in a while helps me to accomplish this. By blending the right kind of fruit, vegetables, juices, and herbs with certain alcoholic beverages (vodka, gin, and wine are some of the best for spring cocktails)you can really drink in the splendor of the season. Cucumber, raspberries, strawberries, basil, rosemary and especially grapefruit, seem to be favorites among spring cocktails. You can add grapefruit juice to just about anything to make the most refreshing cocktails exactly the way you want it. Or you can try something a little different. For instance, a Strawberry-Basil Margarita uses limeade concentrate, strawberries and basil along with tequila to make a perfectly scrumptious delight for any occasion. If drinks with gin are more your style, A Lillet Rose cocktail could be the best choice for you. Although slightly different than the normal fruity, sweet cocktail this recipe calls for grapefruit juice, gin, and an interesting wine called Lillet to give it the rose infused taste. A Mimosa is also an excellent, easy, and fantastic drink to have at a special brunch in Spring (like Easter), or to enjoy later on. It is a simple, yet very tasteful recipe. Usually this is made with orange juice and champagne although sparkling white wine can be substituted. There are many variations of this traditional cocktail. Sparkling Bocce Bella which uses 1 ounce of an amaretto like Disaronno Originale along with the orange juice and wine is one of these. Another great choice: A Grapefruit Mimosa. This is as simple as the others, only with grapefruit juice instead of orange juice. As always, vodka makes any cocktail refreshing. Springtime is the perfect time of year to enjoy a martini, and there are so many to choose from! I think that the best kind of martini cocktail when it comes to a great refreshment would be an Appletini, Elderflower Martini, or a Strawberry Rhubarb Martini, although you can find just about any kind that you could imagine. A Grapefruit Martini sounds the most...
